SYLLABUS Spanish

Introduction
This 30-hour course on introduction to the Spanish language is organised functionally, around objectives that students need to achieve as they adjust to living in the Spanish culture and the grammatical structures students need to achieve these structures. Each of the four skills (oral expression, written expression, listening comprehension and reading comprehension) is emphasised through the course.

Classes use communicative language teaching methodologies, whose main ideas are the following:
Classes are taught entirely in spanish to maximise exposure to the target language.
Grammar is always presented in context and with brief, practical explanations.
Students focus on real-life application of language throug participatory exercises, games, group discussions, and other hand activities.
Cultural themes are woven throughout the language classes, and they are usually related to the activity contents.
Students use Spanish language materials developed specifically for use in Spain.

- Hobbies and the verb "gustar"

Unit 2
- Expressing intentions: “querer” + infinitive
- Explaining reasons: “porque”, “por” and “para”
- Spanish Out There: interesting places in Barcelona

Unit 3
- Objects for daily use
- Expressing necessity necesidad: tener que + infinitive
- Clothes
- Colours
- Going shopping: asking for products, prices, etc
- Numbers from 100
- Buying food
- S.O.T.  we go to the market (La Boquería)

Unit 4
Services in a district
Describing places, districts and cities
Expressing existence and location: verbs “hay (haber)” and “estar”
Giving and asking for information on adresses
Interrogative pronouns: qué/cual/cuáles/cuántos/cuántas/dónde/cómo
Quantifying: muy/mucho/mucha/muchos/muchas

Unit 5
- Expressing interests and tastes: verbs "interesar", "gustar" (review) and "encantar"
- Talking about physical aspect and personality
